[Sunrise at Bagan]. Like in a fairytale the balloon rises over the early morning mist to reveal thousands of ancient temples which slowly reveal their gold colour in the rising sun. a moment of peace in a ratteled country. [Artist of the light]. While shooting sunrise in the Vermilion lakes area of Banff national park, Canada, I met a fellow photographer on the scene. Most of the time, we tried not to get in each other's way, however, just by accident, I snapped a picture with him in it working on his tripod settings, and it turned out to be a great photo compared to my sunrise shots. [Cruising in Cuba]. The National Highway in Cuba has many stretches where you will not see another car for miles. Then when you do see one, it is an old classic like this 1950's Buick which looks at home on the open road with the Cuban landscape of fields and mountains in the distance. [Floating icebergs on black sand]. Jökulsárlón is a large glacial lagoon in southeast Iceland, on the borders of Vatnajökull National Park. [Sea Gypsies in Sibuan Island]. The Sea Gypsies or [Bajau Laut] are famous for their unique nomadic seafaring lifestyle. On Sibuan Island is a small village of about 10 families sea gypsies who live beside beautiful beaches of white coral soft sand. Location: Sibuan Island, Semporna, Sabah, Malaysia. [Sunrise at Ganges River]. The Ganges is the most sacred river to Hindus and Varanasi is a city situated on the banks of the Ganges River. [Waiting for the season]. Lake Balaton is the most popular place for Hungarians if they would like to travel on a domestic holiday. During winter the whole area is empty, you can meet hardly nobody. If the winter is cold enough the the whole lake freezes over and you can walk from the southern shore to the northern that is 5 km long. This picture shows an interesting contrast where both the winter and summer seasons can be seen. Location: Lake Balaton, Siófok, Hungary. [Enjoing Seville]. A couple with their pet watching the baroque style facade of the City Town Hall in Plaza San Francisco at Seville, Spain. [Conquering a fear]. My friend and I passed through New Zealand whilst on our travels and ended up in this ice cave. It was towards the end of the day that we came across this cave which we were allowed to venture in to. We were told that it wouldn't be here in a weeks time as the glacier will have shifted so I'm extremely happy that I managed to get a picture of it before it was wiped out of existence. [Church of St Frances of Assisi]. On Easter Sunday, we went to pay a visit to the Church of St Frances of Assisi. It was difficult to distinguish the beauty of the town from the crowds of pilgrams flocking to the church. However, up at the top of the hill there was a sense of calm. Location: Assisi, Italy. [Open earth]. My husband and I took a drive around Iceland this past July and were simply amazed by the beauty we encountered. The night we came across the boiling mud pits was one of my favorites. It was the clearest night we had thus far on our journey and we witnessed Iceland's [Midnight Sunset] that night. And I couldn't of wished for a better night for us to witness such a beautiful light, as it casted warmth against all the textures that existed in this wonderful location as the ground reminded us it was alive! [Shanghai Sunrise]. I was jetlagged after the 16hr flight form Chicago. Since I was awake anyways, I figured I'd walk along the Bund for some photo shooting. There is lots of activity in the morning: people riding bikes, running, flying kites etc. I got lucky, this man was doing Tai Chi as the sun rose among the skyscrapers – it made for a great photo opportunity. [Spirit of Adventure]. This shot was done from a helicopter that belonged to the Icebreaker «Kapitan Dranitsyn», which is shown on the shot, during expedition to Franz Josef Land in Arctic Ocean in July 2011. Low temperature, strong wind and open door of the helicopter: I could hardly see something in the viewfinder because of the tears from my eyes, but still the shot was done perfectly almost blindly. [Merit Winner: Lost in Time – An Ancient Forest]. Near the city of Morondava, on the West coast of Madagascar lies an ancient forest of Baobab trees. Unique to Madagascar, the endemic species is sacred to the Malagasy people, and rightly so. Walking amongst these giants is like nothing else on this planet. Some of the trees here are over a thousand years old. It is a spiritual place, almost magical. Location: Avenue du Baobab, Morandava, Madagascar. [Cold Truth of Finland]. Got this one captured on 28.4.2012 around 02.00am outside my summerhouse. 2 days before we could walk on ice to the island where my summerhouse is and 2 days after the shot we were going back to mainland with rowing boat. The view in the night was just so amazing, cold bright sky, moon, stars and a little bit sunset in the back as a bonus. Nightless nights here are just amazing. [King of the Maasai Mara]. Shot of a lion walking through the Maasai Mara. There were 5 or 6 safari vehicles following this majestic beast as it calmed strolled through the savanna, unfazed. [Twilight on the road]. The sun has gone down the horizon. I was going to leave the bay road when I saw this old volvo waiting for the green light. [Old Soul]. On a weekend trip to Westcliffe, Colorado we drove to the peak of a mountain, got off and hiked the rest of the way. After a few minutes of taking photos, I turned around to see an old, wise buck walking right up to us, stopping maybe 10 feet from us. It seemed as though he was just happy to have some company. He watched me set up my tripod for some landscape shots and followed me around like a dog for a good half hour and even appeared to pose for me when I took photos of him. [Water Fall at the WTC Center Memorial]. The World Trade Center Memorial in New York City seemed vast and somewhat sterile until I focused on just a part of the waterfall and was overwhelmed with the feeling of all those fleeting souls coursing down into the abyss. [Cleaning The Stupa]. Custodians fling yellow colored water made from saffron onto Bodhnath Stupa in Nepal. The yellow arc represents the double lotus. Bodhnath Stupa, located in the Kathmandu Valley, lies on the ancient trade route from Tibet and attracts thousands of pilgrims and tourists daily.
