Ice Bubbles Create Picturesque Scene at the Foot of the Rocky Mountains

Located at the foot of the Rocky Mountains on the North Saskatchewan River, the rare phenomenon occurs each winter in the man-made lake. The simple but stunning nature of the bubbles was captured on camera by a 40-year-old American photographer, Chip Phillips, who walked onto the lake for a better view of the scene. Ice bubbles occur during the months of November and March when the plants on the lake bed release methane gas, which freezes as it comes closer to the cold surface of the lake.
